Dr. Preston Howerton

MEDICAL DIRECTOR, VERA FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE
DOCTOR OF OSTEOPATHIC MEDICINE

Dr. Preston Howerton serves as the Medical Director of Vera Functional Medicine, where he brings over two decades of experience in internal medicine, emergency medicine, and aerospace medicine to an integrative, patient-centered approach to care.

He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences – College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, Missouri, following a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. Dr. Howerton completed his internal medicine internship at the Medical Center of Independence and went on to receive advanced post-graduate training at the United States Air Force Aerospace Medicine training facility, where he served as an active-duty Flight Surgeon.

Since completing his Air Force service, Dr. Howerton has practiced as both a primary care physician and emergency room physician since 2007. His clinical expertise and leadership at Vera Functional Medicine support a mission of bridging modern medicine with functional and lifestyle-based care for optimal long-term health.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Howerton and Dr. Kerri love to travel, attend Chiefs home games, spend weekends on their land and together raise their three children, who are actively involved in a variety of sports and activities.
